Foil Art Experiment

Sorry for being away for a while but we have been on holiday to Cornwall - a beautiful part of the country so I am now fully relaxed and chilled!!

I started violin lessons at the beginning of the year and was lucky enough to find the most lovely and amazing violin teacher whose lessons I love going to and look forward to every week.  Unfortunately for me, she and her husband have taken a BIG step and sold their house to move to Manchester to set up a church.

I wanted to make a leaving present for her and thought I would experiment with some gold foiling which is really popular at the moment.  I was going to fork out and get a Minc Foiling Machine but after watching a video by one of my favourite craft bloggers Jennifer McGuire called Easy Gold Foil just using a cheap home laminator, I decided to have a go and this is what I created.

I created the print file in Photoshop but you could just as easily use MS Word.  I selected a couple of different fonts and added some graphics that were free from The Hungry Jpeg HERE.  I printed it using my laser printer....it has to be laser as the foil doesn't stick to inkjet ink.  I then laid some Deco Foil gold sheets over the text.  Deco Foil is easy to find online here in the UK and it can be bought in lots of different colours.

The first time I ran this through the laminator, I thought the foil would only stick to the black toner so I didn't bother trimming it and found that it did stick to part of the coloured toner.  So I printed off another copy and cut the foil to lay only on the text.  After it came out of the laminator I let it cool for about 30 seconds before peeling off the foil.

I have to say I was impressed with how well the foil adhered to the toner and there were only 3 very small spots which are barely visible where it didn't stick so well but I shan't be rushing out to buy a Minc anytime soon.

I hope she likes her present.

I can see me going mad with foiling now.  I also bought some red and green foil so I can make some labels for Christmas presents....the possibilities are endless!!

I'll be back to normal blogging on Monday.  Have a great weekend.
