No Otters in Sight!

Hello and welcome to the start of another week.  I hope you had a lovely weekend wherever you are.  I made this card over the weekend.  Why is it that the simplest cards can sometimes take the longest?  And the end result of this one is nothing like I had in mind - yet again!
Please note that there are no otters are in this card (although I might have to sneak one more in this week!).
Distress ink blended card made with WPlus9 Forest Friends and Curious Forest Friends stamps
I used 2 stamp sets by WPlus9, Forest Friends and Curious Forest Friends.
I started off by using some Distress Inks, Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Peacock Feathers, to create the background.  I am still learning how to blend with them and have found that not all card stock will blend them well.  Fortunately I had some Ranger Watercolour card and so I used that and it blended easily.
My collection of distress inks was very sparse but a few weeks ago I went with my sister to my mum and dads house.  They both died within a relatively short time of each other and these past 2 years haven't been easy but we had to go and sort through the house in readiness for the house clearance people to come.  I got my love of crafting from my mum and she had her own dedicated craft room.  It was full of stuff and hard to go through, but amongst other things, I took her collection of Distress Inks (which was quite a few - thank you mum - you have saved me some money) and also an almost brand new set of  72 Derwent Inktense pencils.
So as I have been using these distress inks I have been thanking mum everytime I picked one up!

Wreath Card

Just a quick post today.  My husband's aunt died last week and the funeral was yesterday.  My mother-in-law asked if I could make a special card to go on the wreath she had ordered as the ones from the florist were a bit plain.
I instantly knew which stamps to use - Papertrey Ink 'The Sweet Life'.  Here is the card.
Wreath card made using The Sweet Life by Papertrey Ink.

The flowers on the wreath were in purple, cream and green so I matched all the card and ink colours to that theme.
I used the misti to line all the layering stamps and leaves as it is so much easier than trying to do it by eye with an acrylic block and then I cut them out using the matching dies.

It looked really lovely when it was attached to the wreath.
That's all for this week.  I hope you have a super weekend.  I am trying desperately to stay away from those MFT otter stamps but they are calling to me.......STILL!!!!
Toodles until Monday.

Step away from the Otters!!

Well let me start off by apologising for yet ANOTHER otter card using MFT Otterly in Love stamps...I just can't stop using them as they are soooo cute but I found out on Monday that my niece's husband's favourite animal is an otter so I just had to make a card for her to give him.  I thought this particular otter was very apt as they had their first baby nearly 3 months ago.
Card made using My Favorite Things Otterly in Love stamps and Abstract Heart Die
I wanted to use the Abstract Heart die again that is also by My Favorite Things.  I used some pastel coloured card to fill in the gaps and then I added Glossy Accents all over.  It looks like a ceramic tile in real life...hmmm perhaps I could make lots of these and decorate the kitchen?!!!

I also used the Stitched Scallop Circle Frames by MFT to frame the heart and sentiment and cut it out twice to make it stand slightly proud of the base.
I hope she likes it!

Otterly Mad for Otters

Sorry for the punny title but I have made another card using MFT Otterly in Love stamps.  Those otters are soooo cute!
MFT Otterley in Love stamps and dies used to make a birthday card
I used some Distress Inks to colour in the sea panel, masking it off first and then I blended Peacock Feathers, Evergreen Bough and Mowed Lawn.
I coloured in the otter with some Copics, W5, W3 and W1 as I wasn't happy with my original colouring with browns...I need some more Copics!  I also coloured in the fishies with Copics and then went ahead & die cut all of them out.
My Favorite Things Otterley in Love stamps used to make a birthday card
I put some Glossy Accents on the heart and popped the otter up on some foam dimensionals.
I was under pressure to get this card finished as we have been busy this weekend - it was my husbean's birthday (we went out for a lovely meal last night to our favourite Thai restaurant and we are off to see Ruby Wax this evening at our local opera house).   I wanted to take the photo before the light faded.  It's been snowing lightly all day so it's been a bit overcast.
I also wanted to put some little white bubbles coming out of the fishes mouths but I wasn't sure if it would look right and I was worried I wouldn't like it or mess it up (which I have a habit of doing) and I didn't want to have to start all over again, so I left it as is...wise decision Wendy!
Toodles for now...

OK - I caved in and added the bubbles...I think I prefer it with than without?  At least I didn't ruin the card! YAY!!

Otterly Love You - MFT

I have been otterly naughty and made a purchase - one of the new releases by My Favorite Things  'Otterly Love You' stamp set.  I also ordered the matching dies and another MFT die called Abstract Heart.
Here is my card.....
Otterly Love you by MFT
I started out by die cutting the Abstract Heart from white card and then heat embossed it using some Gold Tinsel embossing powder by Stampendous.  I then adhered that to a piece of acetate very carefully.  I replaced the heart into the original piece of white card and glued it to a piece of watercoloured card that I had stuck some of the little fishes onto which I had coloured using some Copic markers.
Otterly Love You stamps by My Favorite Things
I coloured in the otter, again using Copics and used some foam to place him on top of the heart.  The sentiment was white heat embossed.
My Favorite Things - Otterly Love You and Abstract Heart die used to make a card.
There are some really clever sentiments with this stamp set all of course using the word otter so I shall be using this set a lot along with that beautiful abstract heart die.  Even my husbean commented how nice it was!
Have a great weekend everyone.  Speaking of husbean, it's his birthday on Saturday so we are off out for a meal to our favourite Thai restaurant and then to see a show on Sunday.

Wake up & Smell the Coffee

I have been playing with some distress inks on today's card.  I wanted to create some sun rays but as I didn't have a stencil I thought I would try and make my own using bits of shaped card.  It worked sort of....I didn't tape one of them down well enough so it can see where!  Another oops!  But overall I like the effect.
This is a one layer card which I was going to enter into this week's Less is More challenge (favourite drink/beverage) but I don't think there is enough white space for it to be a CAS card.  Coffee is one of my favourite drinks along with wine and cider...oh... and malt whisky!

The stamp set is by L'il Inker & is called Coffee Talk.  The coffee cup was masked off before I used distress inks to make the sun's rays and I then coloured in the cup with Copic markers.   I have also added some Glossy Accents on the heart.

I have had such a hard time taking a photo of  this card too.  Don't know why, but apart from the gloomy weather at the moment and lack of good natural light, I always struggle with orange colours in my cards.

Toodles for now.

Tweet Hugs

I hope you had a lovely weekend.  I didn't post on Friday like I usually do as I went down with a 48 hour bug that even kept me out of my craft room (it was that bad!!).  But I'm back to 'normal' now and I've made a card using Winnie and Walter 'So Tweet' stamps.  I was inspired to get this stamp set out again after seeing an amazing card by Rebekah Weckerley who I have recently discovered on Instagram.  Her blog is here.
So Tweet stamps by Winnie and Walter coloured in using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers
I have used my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers to colour both the bird and the leaves and flowers and then added some Glossy Accents to the little bird's chest/heart.
I cut the 'hugs' out using my Cameo and heat embossed that with a woodgrain stamp onto some pink card and then layered it onto some black card which I slightly offset so that it gave it a 3D effect.
So Tweet by Winnie and Walter
I also heat embossed the sentiment which is from the same stamp set.  It is all adhered onto some watercolour card that I cut out using WPlus9's Sunshine Layers.
We had a big dollop of snow overnight last Thursday which settled quite heavily on ice so it caused a few problems on the roads although I have to say that where I live everyone is used to snow and just gets on with it but when we walked into town at the weekend for our usual Saturday morning coffee, it was a bit slippery underfoot and I remembered reading recently that walking like penguins is a good way to stop yourself from slipping up on ice.  So much to my husband's amusement (and embarrassment) I waddled down the road like a penguin!!!!  And do you works!  We were laughing all the way to the coffee shop.  I dare you to try it :-)

Happy Hugs

Another Valentine card today but this time using a stamp set by Clearly Besotted called Happy Hugs.  I can't wait until CB re-open their store as I love their stamps.  I believe it will re-open in April.
This card ended up looking nothing like I had planned and took me 2 days to finish.  I couldn't decide what to crafting mojo disappeared last weekend!  But this is what I came up with eventually!
Clearly Besotted Happy Hugs used to make a watercoloured Valentine card
I watercoloured a freehand drawn heart on some Arches Aquarelle card and then cut it out.  I stamped the rabbits - well I think they are rabbits - and then coloured them in using my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers.  I added some Liquid Applique for their bunny tails.
Happy Hugs by Clearly Besotted
I then die cut the word 'love' using Avery Elle 'Simply Said Love' - once on white card and then again onto the watercoloured heart and then laid the white one inside the heart.
I'm hoping my crafting mojo will return this week.  Sometimes I just sit starting out of my craft room window hoping for inspiration and other days I have got a gazillion ideas whizzing around in that old head of mine!

Bear Hugs

I have been layering Hugs today!  I love to put dimension onto my cards and as Valentine's Day is not that far away now I based today's card with that in mind.
A Friend for All Seasons by WPlus9 used to make a Valentine's Day Card
I cut out 4 layers of black card using my Silhouette Cameo for the HUGS.  On one of the layers I used gold glitter embossing powder and embossed that layer twice before sticking all the letters on top of each other.
Valentine's Day card made using WPlus9 Friends For All Seasons
The bear is from WPlus 9 'A Friend for All Seasons' and he is coloured with Copics.  The background has been watercoloured using distress inks and then cut out using (once again) Sunshine Layers by WPlus9.  I finally popped the top layer up on foam tape onto the black card base and added a few golden hearts from a shaker mix apart from the large one which was punched out using gold miri card.

The Sweet Life

I've decided to try and use stamps that I haven't used in a while rather than always being tempted to buy all the amazing new releases as much as I want them ALL!!
So here is today's card that I made using The Sweet Life by Papertrey Ink.  I soooo wish they would sell here in the UK as the customs charges really bump up the prices.
Papertrey Ink The Sweet Life
I think I might have mentioned this before (it's an age thing!) but I really used to struggle with these stamps before I got my MISTI.  They are layering stamps and the MISTI makes it so much easier to line them up.

The Sweet Life stamps by Papertrey Ink
I stamped the flowers using 3 different colours of pink ink and 2 different shades for the leaves.  I cut them out using the matching dies and then layered them onto a circle of black card.  The sentiment which is from the same set was heat embossed using white embossing powder.
I added a few sequins from Lucy's Things 'Gold Dust' and then layered that onto my well used and trusted 'Sunshine Layers' by WPlus9.

iPhone Card

I have made an iPhone card today using a Silhouette cut file that Faith from Daffodil Cards kindly sent me after I saw her super card HERE.  Faith is very skilled in Photoshop and uses it to make a lot of her cards so please hop on over to see what lovelies she creates.
I altered the file slightly and added a few bits of my own and here is the result.
iPhone birthday card cut using a Silhouette Cameo
I thought I would try and copy some of the apps which I have got on my own iPhone.  I created them in Silhouette Design Studio and then used Print and Cut to cut them all out.
I stuck it all together (a bit fiddly) and then added some acetate to act as the screen which you can see a bit better in the photo below.
iPhone Birthday card cut out using a Silhouette Cameo
I have to say it took me an afternoon creating all of the little apps but I really enjoyed myself.
And here is the inside of the card.  I left the bottom 'text message' blank so I could fill in my own message later.
Mobile Phone birthday card cut using a Silhouette Cameo
It's been really hard lately to find any decent light to take photos of my cards as the weather has been so overcast.  I usually wander around the house trying to find somewhere where the light is half decent.  Oh to live somewhere bright and sunny all year round!  Mind you I would miss the rain...yes I am one of those people who enjoy walking in the rain (as long as I am well wrapped up)!

Doodled Flowers - Happy Little Stamper

I have used a stamp set that I won last year in a blog challenge by Happy Little Stamper called Doodled Flowers.  I haven't made a 'flowery' card for a while so here it is.
Happy Little Stamper Doodled Flowers
I used my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers with water to colour the flowers and leaves and then cut them out by hand.
I mounted them onto a piece of white card that I had die cut using Reverse Confetti Confetti Cuts 'Edgers'.
I added some patterned card underneath that and then heat embossed the sentiment (which is also from the same stamp set) onto some vellum using gold glitter embossing powder.
Thank you to everyone who visited my blog during 2016.   I love sharing my creations but knowing that someone has taken the time to read my posts or leave a comment really encourages me to keep posting.  So thank you again and I wish you all the best in 2017.
